Why heating in Kaş needs a different plan
Kaş is one of the Antalya districts without a natural gas distribution network. Its building stock is noticeably different from the central districts: many stone villas, traditional stone houses, foreign-owned holiday homes and gated developments. This mix calls for a different approach to system choice. Instead of waiting for gas that has no confirmed arrival date, most new builds and renovations in Kaş now go straight to a Vaillant aroTHERM plus heat pump.
Why heat pumps work well here
An air-source heat pump extracts energy from outdoor air and, via an electrically-driven compressor, converts it into heating and hot water - no LPG tank or bottled gas required. The aroTHERM plus range can produce flow temperatures up to 75°C, so it can often run on an old stone house's existing radiator system without a full re-pipe. Best efficiency still comes from a low-temperature emitter (underfloor heating or oversized panel radiators), but this flexibility matters a lot for partial renovations.
Outdoor unit placement and salt air
Much of Kaş sits close to the sea; salt-laden wind can corrode the outdoor unit's casing and heat exchanger fins over time. We avoid mounting units in direct sea spray or exposed wind corners, choosing a sheltered position instead. Heat exchanger cleaning also becomes a more important part of maintenance here than in a standard boiler service.
Notes for overseas property owners
Kaş has one of the higher shares of foreign-owned property in Antalya. For villas left empty most of the year, the heat pump's remote-controllable thermostat/control unit can hold the property on frost-protection mode, or start heating remotely a few days before the owner arrives. Contracts and technical documentation can be shared by email for owners based abroad.
Old buildings: insulation first, then system sizing
Thick stone walls in older Kaş houses can provide useful thermal mass, but if the roof and windows are poorly insulated, heat loss can still be high. We do not claim a heat pump suits every building automatically; during the site visit we calculate heat loss, flag where insulation upgrades are needed, and size the unit accordingly. An undersized or oversized heat pump runs inefficiently and puts extra wear on the compressor.
Hot water demand and cylinder sizing
Villas and holiday homes with multiple bathrooms make hot water capacity a real consideration. A storage cylinder paired with the heat pump (such as the uniSTOR RW) buffers hot water so simultaneous use doesn't cause a drop in supply. We size the cylinder to bathroom count and expected occupancy during the site visit, recommending larger capacity for villas that see high guest turnover.
How the process works in Kaş
After the initial call, we carry out an on-site survey covering heat loss and electrical capacity, then send a written quote and installation schedule. Once approved, we complete installation, commissioning and a walkthrough of the controls. For villas left empty for long stretches, owners can request seasonal check-ins - a start-of-season inspection is a standard part of coastal maintenance here given the salt air.

Will natural gas ever reach Kaş, and should we wait for it?
There is no active gas grid investment planned for Kaş and no confirmed timeline. Rather than waiting, most homes and villas are better served financially by switching to a heat pump now, which has a much longer service life and lower running cost than tank/bottled LPG.
Is a heat pump enough for an old stone villa?
Not always on its own. Thick stone walls with poor roof or window insulation can lose heat faster than the system can replace it.
